The Launch

On September 30, 2019, the Foundation for Modern Education was officially established with a mission to advance and modernize Bulgaria’s educational landscape. Our foundation is built on the experience and success of the Swiss-Bulgarian DOMINO project, which introduced the dual education model to Bulgaria—a model that integrates classroom learning with practical work experience, aligning education with the needs of the labor market.

The DOMINO project, coordinated by Petya Evtimova, laid the groundwork for transforming vocational education in Bulgaria. By the end of the project, thousands of students had gained valuable hands-on experience, and strong partnerships between schools and businesses were forged. However, as DOMINO concluded, it became clear that the progress made needed to be sustained and expanded.

In response, our foundation was created to continue this important work. Our mission is to support the development of modern education through:

  • Advocacy for key policies in education and youth development
  • Projects aimed at modernizing Bulgarian education
  • Studies and impact assessments to inform educational practices
  • Training programs for students, educators, and business professionals
  • Public-private partnerships to strengthen collaboration between educational institutions and the business community

While we are proud of the achievements made through DOMINO, we recognize that challenges remain. Our foundation is committed to addressing these challenges by fostering closer cooperation between businesses and educational institutions, ensuring that Bulgaria’s education system continues to evolve and meet the demands of the modern workforce.

We invite you to join us on this journey as we work to build a more skilled and capable workforce for the future.
