Design Thinking as an Innovative Approach in Education – Inspiration for Teachers in the Energy Sector

Today, at the invitation of Electrohold Bulgaria EOOD, the Modern Education Foundation conducted an inspiring training session on the topic: “Design Thinking – A New Path in Project-Based Learning.” The event brought together teachers and school principals from vocational high schools specializing in electrical engineering from Vratsa, Lom, Pleven, Sofia, Zlatitsa, Pernik, Samokov, Blagoevgrad, and Vidin. The training took place at the Technical Training Center of ERM West, whose team graciously hosted the event.

The session began with an energetic and interactive activity led by lecturer Yana Avramova, fostering an atmosphere of openness and trust among participants. The core of the program focused on the methodology of design thinking – a structured approach to solving challenges and creating innovative solutions. Participants were guided through the five key phases of the process:

  • Empathy – Understanding the needs of users.
  • Defining the problem – Formulating a clear challenge.
  • Generating ideas – Developing creative solutions.
  • Prototyping – Creating visual models.
  • Testing – Gathering feedback and optimizing solutions.

The practical activities were the highlight of the event, providing participants the opportunity to work in teams, discuss ideas, and create prototypes addressing real-world challenges. The collaborative atmosphere and exchange of experiences enriched the learning process, inspiring participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge in their professional practice.

The Modern Education Foundation extends its heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their active engagement in the training and discussions, as well as to the hosts at the Technical Training Center of ERM West for their generous support.

With this event, the Modern Education Foundation once again reaffirmed its mission to support teachers’ professional development by offering innovative and inspiring training formats. We believe that educators are the key to building a future characterized by creativity, collaboration, and innovation.
